ACADEMICS:

As stipulated by the Western Cape Education Department, Longacres Private School in Langebaan follows the CAPS integrated curriculum.  All Longacres private school's staff members have attended extensive CAPS training and continue attending workshops to keep updated with new developments. The school incorporated technology and practical sessions into planning to ensure that every pupil is challenged, intrigued and inspired daily.

INCLUDED IN THE CURRICULUM:

GR.1-GARDENING:
Gr.1 Longacres Private School's pupils are all involved in our gardening program.  We prepare the soil, plant seeds, weed, maintain our patch and watch our crops grow.  Pupils learn about seasonal vegetables, as well as various other plants and crops. 

GR.2- FRENCH KNITTING:
At Longacres Private School in Langebaan, each pupil has a creative side and with this activity children get another oppourtunity to explore their creativity.  Pupils are challenged mentally and attempt practical problem solving whilst working on the creations.

Gr.3 - KNITTING

Knitting isn't just for grannies and boring aunts. No, at Longacres, the grade 3 classes will learn all the skills and enjoyment of this ancient art. We will also apply our knitwear to entrepreneurship to see who is the boss of our new generation.

EXPERI-BUDDIES (Gr 1-3)

Experi-buddies is an educational extra-mural science programme that uses experiments to show young children that the world of science can be fun. This is done by means of interactive projects, exciting demonstrations and basic experiments. We aim to make your child's introduction to science an unforgettable experience.

MUSIC EDUCATION

The value of music education

Music Education is part of the Performing Arts in the subject Life Skills.

The focus is on skills development, communication and creativity.

Music offers a way for learners to get to know themselves, but also others. The value of music education and its contribution to the experience of success can be divided into six categories: 

1. Successful intellectual development

2. Successful physical development

3. Successful emotional development 

4. Successful social development 

5. Successful cultural development 

6. Successful school experience

Research shows that children who participate in music activities are more often chosen as leaders and perform academically. Through participation in the school's music programs, the child develops a sense of discipline, self-image, pride and success. Children develop with respect to group collaboration, problem solving, leadership and creative thoughts.

 

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION:

In all grades, each student has access to an iPad. This exciting new technology is used to draft and edit writing, practice math facts, access online educational programs, and create student projects. Longacres private school will use the likes of wood-puzzle-style apps to develop motor skills, abcPocketPhonics for tracing letters, and Math Bingo for basic maths. iBooks engage and intrigue learners whilst developing reading skills. Students are more engaged and willing to participate in the learning process.Wireless capability means teachers aren't tied to their computer, and don’t need to worry about someone tripping over cables.  A variety of differentiated teaching methods are geared to the individual learner.  At any time there may be small groups working together, hands-on activities, and whole group instruction using the Smart Boards.

Leierskap en leierskap ontwikkeling:

Representative Council of Learners – Verteenwoordigende Raad van Leerders: 

After 1994, as part of our democracy, SGBs were set up in our schools to ensure that every part of the school community had a say in the process of teaching and learning. As part of this democratisation process, learner’s organisations were also given formal legal status as stipulated in the SA Schools Act, 1996 (Act 84 of 1996)which states that a Representative Council of Learners (RCL) should be set up to represent the interests of the learners in every school which has learners from Grade 8 to 12. They are the link between the school and the management of the school along with the governing body. Being a member of a RCL are better able to take their place in society proudly because of the knowledge and skills gained by the programme.

The learners learn about the functions of the office bearers as well as the tasks of the RCL. They also deal with learner issues at their schools. Being a member of a RCL encourages learners to become more civic-minded and take more interest in the governance of their schools.

By Longacres word daar 3 verteenwordigers verkies, ongeag van hul geslag, vanaf Gr 8-12. In GR 12 word daar twee hoofleiers (ongeag van die geslag) verkies met drie aditionele verteenwoordigers wat as die school se MANCO bekend staan. Hulle is dan verantwoordelik vir al die ander VRL lede en hierdie entiteit se bestuur. Tot Longacres Privaatskool nie Gr 12’s het nie, sal die hoogste graad die Manco wees met ‘n onderwyser aan bestuur en die Hoërskoolhoof. Sodra die eerste Gr 12 Manco verkies word, sal net een onderwyser leiding neem.

The RCL, as a body, has the authority to change and implement new rules into the school’s Code of Conduct; by following the correct procedures stimulated in the School’s Act of 1996. They must hold council at least twice a year where they get the opportunity to convince the Advisory Board to change, exclude or add new rules, structures and/or facilities. In preparation of Council, the compiling of the necessary, research reports, proposals and documentation becomes the responsibility of the entire RCL body. The RCL is a school management body and a member of this body is NOT a prefect; they are not responsible in assisting teachers with their daily responsibilities or duties; like admin or the discipline of the learners.

In ‘n neutedop kan ons leerderkomitees gesien word as ‘n geleentheid vir leerders om hulle medeleerders, die skool en die gemeenskap te dien. Die komitees dek ‘n wye veld en fokus verder op leierskapontwikkelin. Die model bied ook geleentheid om aan die leerders ander vaardighede, soos byvoorbeeld probleemoplossing, aan te leer, asook hoe om beter in spanverband te funksioneer. Personeel dien as voogde van hierdie komitees.

By using this system we will be able to give opportunity for learners to develop their leadership skills, learn new skills and also teach them how important teamwork is. It is important for our learners to understand that people think differently and interpret things differently. Therefore they must learn to communicate with each other and also learn to respect other’s opinions.

AKADEMIES:

Longacres Privaatskool in Langebaan volg die KABV kurrikulum, soos deur die Wes-Kaapse Onderwys Departement voorgeskryf. Al ons opvoeders is opgelei om die kurrikulum in sy totale omvang aan te bied, en woon gereeld verdere opleidingsessies by om op die voorpunt te bly van die nuutste tendense in die onderwys. Longacres Privaatskool se leerders is almal betrokke by ons tuinbou program. Ons bewerk die grond, plant sade, blomme, plante, roei onkruid uit, en neem waar hoe die gewasse groei. Leerders leer oor seisoenale groente asook ander gewasse.

GR.2-TOLLETJIE BREI:
By Longacres ontvang leerders die geleentheid om hul kreatiwiteit uit te leef met hierdie aktiwiteit. Leerders word uitgedaag om tydens die projekte probleemoplosssing strategiee aan te leer en toe te pas. 

Gr.3- BREI

Brei is nie net vir oumas en vervelige tannies nie, Nee, hier by Longacres gaan die graad 3's al die vaardighede en genot van hierdie oeroue kuns aanleer. Ons gaan ons breiwerk ook aanwend tot entrepeneurskap en kyk wie is die baasbreier van ons nuwe generasie.

EXPERI-MAATJIES(Gr 1-3)

Experi-maatjies is 'n buitemuurse wetenskapprogram wat eksperimente gebruik om vir jong kinders te leer dat die wereld van wetenskap pret kan wees. Dit word gedoen deur gebruik te maak van interaktiewe projekte, oulike demonstrasies en eenvoudige eksperimente. Daar word gepoog om jou kind se eerste blootstelling aan wetenskap 'n onvergeetlike leerervaring te maak.

Die waarde van Musiekopvoeding

Musiekopvoeding is deel van die Uitvoerende Kunste in die vak Lewensvaardighede.  Daar word gefokus op die ontwikkeling van vaardighede, kommunikasie en kreatiwiteit.
